Cavity Wall Insulation Removal

Cavity wall insulation (CWI) was widely installed in UK homes from the 1970s onwards, often under government-backed schemes. While effective when correctly installed, poorly specified or degraded insulation can cause serious damp and structural problems. Removal — also called extraction or de-insulation — involves drawing the material out through small drilled holes, leaving the cavity clean and dry.

Fylde Insulation uses industrial-grade extraction equipment to fully remove all insulation types, including mineral wool, polystyrene beads, and urea-formaldehyde foam. Once removed, your walls are re-pointed and restored to their original condition.

Our Cavity Wall Insulation Removal Process

We keep the process simple, clean, and minimally disruptive. Most properties are completed in a single day.

1. Free Home Survey — A qualified surveyor assesses your property, confirms the type and condition of existing insulation, and checks for any damp ingress. No obligation, no pressure.
2. Wall Drilling — Small holes (typically 22mm) are drilled in a pattern across your external brickwork. Spacing is calculated to ensure full extraction coverage.
3. High-Power Extraction — Industrial vacuum equipment draws all insulation material out through the drilled holes. We contain and remove all extracted material from site.
4. Cavity Inspection — We use a borescope camera to verify the cavity is clear and identify any remaining problem areas before we close up.
5. Re-pointing & Reinstatement — All drilled holes are filled with matching mortar and colour-matched to your existing brickwork. Your walls are left looking as they were.
6. Completion Report — You receive a full written report confirming the work completed — useful for solicitors, surveyors, mortgage lenders, and CIGA claims.
